Students enrolled at EC3 for the Pre-Nursing pathway learn the skills and techniques to be successful in the health care industry. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit and industry certification that will put them on the fast track for success. As part of the Pre-Nursing pathway, students will have the opportunity to become a state registered Medicaid Nurse Aid. EC3 currently has a 93% pass rate on the Medicaid Nurse Aid Exam.
EC3 boasts a five bed lab with full shower and bathroom that simulates the environment at most hospitals and long term nursing facilities. Students also train with state of the art resources like an advanced patient simulator. When students are not in the lab, they are completing clinical hours at at actual health care facilities with real patients.
Medicaid Nurse Aide (170631 A/B)
Grade Level: May enroll as an 11th or 12th Grader
Prerequisites: Principles of Health Sciences A/B, Emergency Procedures, Medical Terminology; Anatomy is highly recommended.
Successful completion of this course makes the participant eligible for college credit in the Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems and gives the participant the prerequisite needed when applying for the Nursing Program at ECTC in Elizabethtown.
This course is designed for students who want entry-level training in one of the many occupational areas in the health care field. It includes instruction in basic skills common to a majority of health occupations as well as those tasks characteristic to specific patient care occupations. A satisfactory performance level in core competencies is required. Topics include introductory anatomy and physiology, Medicaid Nurse Aide theory and skills necessary to pass the MNA Exam, as well as work place principles. Students will also be involved in supervised clinical rotations related to the educational objectives in the area of pre-nursing. Some of these clinical rotations will take place outside of school hours.
Advance Pre-Nursing (NAA 115) (170621 A/B/C)
Grade Level: 11th or 12th
Prerequisites: Completed MNA and passed the State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) Exam.
Total Accepted: 20 per Teacher Approval
Provides knowledge and skills for nurse aides to assume the role and responsibility required in a variety of health care settings. Builds upon MNA 100 and prepares the student to perform basic nursing skills at an advanced level.
