EKG Technician (170555 A/B)
Grade Level: 12th **This course is limited to seniors in good standing chosen by a selection process.
Prerequisites: Principles of Health Sciences A/B, Emergency Procedures, Medical Terminology; Anatomy is highly recommended.
This course is prepares students for the EKG Technician Certification. As a Certified EKG Technician (CET), you’ll operate machines that record the electrical activity of a patient’s heart. EKG rhythms provide important data for the diagnosis of heart conditions. According to the National Health Association (NHA) as a CET, you may perform the following tasks: Set up and administer EKGs/stress tests; Prepare patients for Holter or ambulatory monitoring; edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis; schedule appointments; transcribe physicians’ interpretations. Students will also be involved in supervised clinical rotations related to the educational objectives in the area of EKG. Some of these clinical rotations will take place outside of school hours.
